Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teasp salt
- 2 1/2 teasp baking soda
- 1 1/2 teasp baking powder
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup cold butter (cut into pieces)
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk

Step 1
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients. Stir together. (I like to use a whisk)
Add the shortening and cold butter. Cut in with a pastry blender or two knifes until it is coarse crumbs.
Pour in buttermilk and mix gently with fork until just combined.
(The biscuit dough will be sticky, not overly dry or crumbly)
Lightly flour a clean surface. Turn the dough out onto the surface from the bowl and roll out 1/3 - 3/4 inch thickness (depending on how thick you want your biscuits)
Cut rounds with a biscuit cutter & place on a cookie sheet.
Bake 11-14 minutes until golden brown. (do not undercook or they will be doughy)
