Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup milk

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in the milk. Turn dough out on board, knead lightly a few seconds to form a ball. Turn smooth side up and pat lightly to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with floured biscuit cutter and place on a greased baking sheet. Place 1 inch apart for crusty biscuits or barely touching for softer biscuits.
Bake about 12 minutes or until light brown. Serve hot with butter, honey, jelly or jam at any meal or serve as a complete breakfast with sausage gravy poured over split biscuits.
Makes 12 biscuits.
