Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 5 tablespoons sofrito (fresh or frozen or bottled)
  • Bacon (cooked and diced), ham (sliced in thin chunks), OR chicken (cooked and shredded)
  • 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 packet sazon seasoning or 1 tablespoon ground annatto
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz.) black beans or any type of beans, drained
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups long grain rice

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil on medium heat. Add sofrito, your choice of meat, tomato sauce, sazon or annatto, cumin, black beans, water and cook for about 10 minutes. Stir in rice, raise heat. Cover and let rice come to a boil for about 10 minutes. Lower heat and stir rice. Cover tightly, and cook for another 25-30 minutes. Stir every 10 minutes until rice is done.
