Ingredients
- 6 C. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 3 tbsp. cornstarch
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 2-1/2 C. buttermilk

Step 1
Preheat oven to 450. Mix dry ingredients in large bowl. Add the buttermilk and stiff just until a soft dough is formed. Turn out onto floured board and knead lightly, about 1 min. Do not overwork the dough or it will become tough. Divide into 2 equal portions and shape into a round loaf. Place on ungreased baking sheet and flatten slightly. Cut a deep cross on top and sprinkle with a little flour. Let rest for 10 min. Bake at 450 for 8-15 min. Reduce temperature to 400 degrees for 20-25 min until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
