Ingredients

  • 2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • 2 T butter
  • 1 1/2 T canola oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 T all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 t baking powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 2 T applesauce
  • 2 egg whites

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees
Line an 8"X8" baking pan with parchment paper, set aside
Melt chocolate, butter and oil in a medium size bowl over a double boiler. remove from heat
Add sugar and cocoa and mix well
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until knife comes out with a few sticky crumbs on it when inserted in the center, do not overbake
remove from oven
Cool for 10 minutes and carefully invert brownines on to a cutting board
Peel off parchment paper
Cut into 2" by 2" ssquares

Makes 16 servings each containing approximately
