  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 3/4 tsp flake salt

Step 1

1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, swirl the butter a few time in the pan. It will foam and begin to splatter; after a few minutes, it will stop splattering and you will begin to see some little brown bits in the butter. At that point, pour the butter into a large bowl and let cool 10 min.

2. Meanwhile, heat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 8x8 in pan with baking spray and set aside.

3. Combine the flour and salt in small bowl.

4. Whisk the eggs and vanilla together in small bowl.

5. Add the brown sugar to the cooled butter and mix well.

6. Add the egg mixture to the butter mix and mix until combined.

7. Add the dry ingredients and mix until almost combined.

8. Fold in the chocolate chips

9. Transfer dough into the prepared pan and press evenly into the corners. Sprinkle the top with flake salt. (Coarse salt works too)

10. Bake for 25-30 min, or until the edges are firm and slightly browned and the top is crisp and just starting to crackle.

11. Let cool completely before removing from the pan.
