  • 1-1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Salad oil
  • 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
  • Syrup

Preparation

Step 1

Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder and salt. Add egg and milk beating until smooth. Heat 1" oil in heavy skillet.

Cover bottom opening of a funnel with finger. Pour 1/4 cup batter into funnel. Hold funnel over center of skillet. Remove finger from funnel end and release batter into hot oil, move funnel in a slow circular motion to form spiral, beginning at the center and moving outward. Fry 2 minutes or until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels, sprinkle with powdered sugar, serve hot with syrup.
