  • 2 1/3 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 3 T butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 5-5 3/4 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

In a saucepan, bring 2 cups water to boil. Stir in oats and reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered for 1 minute. Stir in brown sugar, butter, salt, and remaining water and put in mixing bowl.

Cool until 110-115 degrees. Stir in yeast, and add 3 cups of flour and mix well. Add rest of flour and knead for 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.

Punch down and shape into 24 rolls. Place on greased baking sheets and cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
