How to Shell Chestnuts
By Hklbrries
Here are some tips on shelling chestnuts:
Try soaking them in lukewarm water for 20 minutes to soften the shell and make it easier to slash.
Instead of an “ X ” on the flat side of the nut, try making a horizontal cut around the bulging belly of the chestnut.
To shell raw chestnuts, cut the tips off both ends and boil them for one minute.
Chestnuts are easier to peel when they are warm. If peeling becomes difficult, reheat the chestnuts.
Wrap the chestnuts in a heavy towel after oven-roasting them. The trapped steam will make them easier to peel.
