Preparation

Step 1

PREHEAT oven to 350ºF. Beat cream cheese, butter and granulated sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Separate 1 of the eggs; set egg white aside for later use. Add yolk, second (whole) egg and vanilla to cream cheese mixture; mix well. Gradually add combined flour and baking powder, beating until well blended after each addition.

DIVIDE dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into 12x1-inch log; place, 2 inches apart, on large ungreased baking sheet. Use handle of wooden spoon or fingers to make depression down length of each log, about 1/2 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep. Beat reserved egg white with fork; brush over dough. Sprinkle with walnuts. Fill depressions with preserves, using about 3 Tbsp. preserves in each log.

BAKE 25 to 27 min. or until edges are lightly browned. Transfer to wire racks; cool slightly. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut each log into 12 diagonal slices.

REVIEWS:

Easy? Making those logs, the dough was sticking to my fingers, and couldn't shape it at all. Just let it hang to get long enough. Ended up spraying the spoon handle with Pam so it wouldn't stick to it. But they did taste o.k.

These cookies are great. Slicing makes a unique shape and really speeds up the process. I like to make huge bowls of mixed cookies for the holidays and this adds a nice touch of color. It is one of my 9 favorites!

I love this cookies. Friends asked for the recipe and they tried it and liked it as much as I do.

A little difficult to make, and there seemed to be too much dough, but yummy! I suggest baking them on parchment paper and or a silicone baking mat.

I made these cookies for Christmas. After reading all of the reviews first before making them, I thought they were going to be good. I found them to be quite dry and they didn't really have that much flavor.

Easy to make and really good!

I have made this recipe twice, both times for Christmas. The recipe recommendations I would make are, use parchment paper on your cookie sheets because the dough is very sticky, roll the dough into logs between the palms of your hand in the air not on a counter top (if you do it on the counter top you will need to use flour and too much flour will make the cookies dry), you will need more nuts and jam than the recipe calls for, the dough itself is not supposed to be sweet so if you are looking for a sweeter cookie make the depression for the jelly deeper and add more, the cream cheese makes the cookie moist and flavorful they won't dry out unless you over bake them, I use a spatuala to lift up the log to see if the underneath is slightly golden that is when they are fully baked, also use your finger to make the depression the spoon does not work!!! I have had great results with this recipe and everyone loves the cookies and asks me for the recipe. If you know what you are doing you should be ok.

These are amazing! It's like a cake cookie and strawberry jam all in one! I took them to work and they were devoured! Yum

These are great with a cup of coffee and also as a breakfast treat.

I love jam cookies, but I think brushing the egg whites on the sides of this one was a mistake. They had a strange texture that I did not like. It was almost rubbery. I don't know what else may have caused that. Any ideas?

They were ok, but I felt like it would have been just as easy to make individual cookies as it was to try and cut through the sticky jam afterwards.

The picture looked good so I decided to try it. It was the worst cookie I've ever tasted. The dough tasted undercooked, even though it golden and definitely cooked, and there was little taste. I even used more preserves than suggested! Didn't help! I would not recommend this recipe.

I loved this recipe. It was easy to make and looked like beautiful little gems on a platter. I served them at a Christmas gathering and everyone loved them. Will definitely make again.

I tried these cookies with both strawberry and pineapple preserves. It was hard to work with the dough and it tasted like just baked undercooked dough. It had a funny odor to it too.

I wish I had read the comment on the recipe before making this recipe. I also found that the recipe needed to bake longer than the instructions stated. We loved the cookies but they were a little undercooked. I will cook than longer next time.

I made this recipe and it was a lot of work. It looked pretty but to my taste was NOT sweet enough. I would put more sugar in the dough.

I made this along with a plate of several other Christmas treats. My husband called it the "filler", like baby's breath behind a rose. Nothing too special about it.

I think these are dry and tasteless. I would not make them again.

This recipe was easy to make. Great Taste! However, it was hard to make into logs, my dough was real sticky. The end result was delicious.

This cookie looks difficult, but was very easy. Next time I will use a little less preserves. Mine were running over.

I made these with both jam and chocolate. For the chocolate, I baked the cookies, when they were cooled, I filled the channels with melted chocolate. Both ways got rave reviews.

It was easier than I thought to make. I liked them alot!

My kids LOVED these!

Vary easy and fun to make. also, family have enjoyed them and want the recipe.

These cookies are easy to make and look good. They are delicious! I made them for a cookie exchange. The recipe is simple and the results are great.

I baked them forever (more than 2x what the recipe calls for) and they still look doughy in the middle. They looked really pretty, just wish they were cooked all the way through.

Great cookie...easy to make...BUT...the dough was too sticky to roll, so after dividing it, I put it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes and then it was just fine. I made these for the first time for a cookie exchange party last week, and they were a big hit.

Everyone loved this yummy dessert! Next time I would cook it for a little bit longer.

I baked this cookie several minutes longer than the recipe said but they still weren't really done. The next day rebaked them and then they were delicious. I don't know what test to use to determine when they should come out of the oven. The toothpick test isn't right for them. I'll experiment until I know.

This was very easy & very tasty. My sister who is very picky and does not like nuts loved this cookie.

As others have said, this did become quite sticky and made rolling the logs a bit difficult. Flour, flour, flour is my suggestion. As you roll it out, keep rolling it in flour on your counter and it will be much easier to work with. I thought it turned out good. Not my favorite holiday cookie, but I still enjoyed it. (My boyfriend said it tasted like pop tarts but better! And he's very picky with desserts, so that's a good sign!)

Scruptuous! An easy recipe that yields lots of delicious, melt-in-your-mouth cookies. If you bake cookies as a holiday gift, this is perfect! And, your family will enjoy them, too.

I had no problem with making these cookies. In my family I am known as the one who can't bake. Everyone was shocked since I made these. These were so easy and delicious!!!!

Very tasty - easy to make. Will add on to one of favorites..

I loved these cookies and, for the first time in 42 years of marriage, my husband decided to help. I made the dough and found it to be quite sticky and he said he would shape the cookies. He did and he then finished the whole recipe except for the jam filling. Even more to my amazement, he took most of the cookies to the fire department where he is a volunteer and they loved them but didn't believe he made them. We will make them again.
