  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1-14 oz. can condensed milk
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • Yolks of 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Step 1

Have ready a 4 cup metal ring or heatproof casserole. In small saucepan over moderate heat, stirring frequently until sugar is a dark, caramel colored liquid. Remove from heat and pour into mold. Quickly grasp mold with pot holders and turn mold to coat bottom and sides as much as possible with caramel. Let mold cool 5-10 minutes until caramel hardens. Heat oven to 325 degrees.

Put sweetened condensed milk, milk, eggs, egg yolks, and flavoring to blender. Cover and blend 8-10 seconds at medium speed to mix thoroughly. Pour mixture into caramel lined mold. Put mold in large pan filled with water to a depth of about 1/2". Bake for 1 hour, until custard is set and a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and remove mold from water. Cool and then refrigerate up to 2 days. Cover mold with an inverted serving platter. Hold mold and platter together and turn them over.
