- 2 1/2 to 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 pkg quick rise dry yeast
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp soda
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/4 c. shortening

Step 1
In large mixer bowl, combine 1 c. flour, yeast, sugar, salt and soda; mix well. Heat buttermilk, water and shortening until very warm (120-130 degrees; shortening does not need to melt). Add to flour mixture. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 2 mintues at medium speed. By hand, gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on floured surface until smooth, about 2 minutes.
Press dough evenly into greased 9-inch square cake pan. Sprinkle top of dough lightly with flour. With sharp knife, cut dough into 12 rolls, cutting almost ot bottom of pan. cover; let rise in warm place 20 minutes (40 minutes for Active Dry Yeast). Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Remove from pan. Brek apart into rolls; serve warm.
