Ingredients
- Add:
- 6-1/2 cups sifted flour
- 2 packages dry yeast in bowl with
- 1 cup warm water and let stand 6 minutes.
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sifted flour
- Mix until smooth. Cover and let stand in a warm place (90 degrees F) for 12 to 15 minutes. Mixture will bubble up and become foamy.
- Add:
- 1/4 cup dry milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1/3 cup lard or other shortening room temp
- 2 eggs unbeaten
- Beat for 2 minutes.
- Stir in remaining flour (about 4 cups) gradually by spoon, then by hand until dough is moderately stiff.
- Turn out onto floured board, shape to a round ball. Cover and let stand 5 minutes.
- If using fresh milk, omit water and dry milk. Scald 1 cup fresh milk and cool to lukewarm.
- White frosting:
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup cream and milk
- Boil. When a round ball, turn light down and boil 2 minutes. Cool. Put in powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla.

Step 1
Divide dough and shape into desired rolls. If you add your favorite topping and filling for rolls or fancy breads.
Place in greased baking pans and let rise in a warm place, 90 degrees F until double in size, 30-40 minutes.
Bake in 375 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes depending on shape and size. Remove from pans immediately. Cool on racks.
Brush tops with softened shortening.
Cover with towel.
