Ingredients
- For the sweet and sour glaze:
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 onion, minced
- 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored,
- seeded and grated
- salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1 pounds ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 Thai chile, stemmed, seaded and
- minded
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon white vinger
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chili sauce, such as Heinz
- 1/4 cup cola
- juice of 1/2 lemon

Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, warm the oil. Add onion, and cook for 3 minutes. Stir in the apple, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 3 more minutes. Remove from heat, and cool slightly.
In a large bowl, combine the beef, egg, bread crumbs, chili, soy sauce, vinegar and sugar. Stir in the onion and apple mixture, using your hands to incorporate all the ingredients. Form the meat mixture into 5 by 12 inch loaf, and place in a parchment-lined baking dish.
In a bowl, combine the glazed ingredients, and stir well. Spread the glaze over the top of loaf, and bake uncovered for 45 mintues. Remove from oven, slice, and serve.
