Ingredients
- 4 c. flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp nutmag
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp crushed cardomon seeds
- 1 tsp anise seeds
- 1/4 lb candied orange peel
- 1/2 lb citron
- 2 tsp butter
- 2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp grated lemon rind
- 3 Tbsp milk
- 1 1/2 c. sugar

Preparation
Step 1
Mix & sift first 7 ingredients. Stir in seeds, orange peel & citron.
Work butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar. Add well beaten egg yolks & lemon. Beat throughly.
Blend flour mixture.
Add stiffly beaten egg whites. Blend well.
Chill 1 hour. Then shape into small balls. Place on waxed paper & let stand, uncovered, overnight at room temperature.
Bake on ungreased sheets at 350 for 15 minutes.
