Ingredients

  • FROSTING:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 teaspoons soda (put in buttermilk)
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 5-1/2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together cookie ingredients. Roll up into log.

Chill.

Cut into slices.

Boil frosting ingredients until it spins a thread.

ADD: 1 pkg Knox unflavored Jello in 5-1/2 tablespoons cold water. Pour syrup over and add vanilla and let stand at room temperature a few minutes. Beat until ready to spread. Takes a lot of beating.

HINTS:
Do not soak gelatin ahead.
Boil sugar and water, then dissolve gelatin
Frost and lay out on table until dry
Cookies freeze well
