Mom made these, much to our dismay, every Christmas. She would make sooo many recipes and we would spend the whole day baking them! They are good though. Rick and Dad really liked these cookies!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups dates pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup crisco 1/2 cup nuts chopped
  • 1 cup margerine 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water 1 cup water
  • with 2 tsp.baking soda 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

Cream sugar and shortening(crisco-margerine) alternatingly add the water with soda and the flour.Pack into Saran wrap and form into a square loaf or roll.Refrigerate several hours or freeze 1 hour.

Boil date mixture until thick and cool

Slice cookie dough.Put 1 tsp of date filling between 2 slices of dough and place on greased cookie sheet.

Bake 375 for 12 to 15 minutes.
