Step 1
I made up my mind not to take the easy way out and make one of her drool inducing soups (I’m dying to try her
I served it up to McGyver, who was loving it. I asked him if he knew what kind of burger it was? “Hmmm, tastes a little different, lamb?”. Seriously! He could tell it was different but assumed it was meat so he was “fooled”. I gotta tell you that I’d eat these burgers anytime! I got a nice crust on the outside and they were creamy and tasty on the inside. I added a slice of cheese to give it that delicious cheeseburger effect and I resisted my urge to add turkey bacon, hope you are proud of me Jamie! If you haven’t already been to visit
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a couple swirls of olive oil.
Add the onion, garlic, tomato, jalapeno, and chili powder. Saute until the onions are soft.
Place the kidney beans in a medium bowl and mash with a fork. Add the onion mixture, bread, crumbs, egg, and barbecue sauce.
Mix well. Form into patties.
Place a little more oil in the skillet and brown the patties on both sides.
I don’t know about you, but I personally love handcrafted anything better than purchased. This week’s giveaway will be for handcrafted jewelry and homemade spice mixes.
Homemade seasoning packs (because this is primarily a cooking blog). The Magic Seasoning Salt is my special blend of seasonings with a peppery punch that is perfect for anything, plus my Smokin’ Spicy Chili Rub (it’s what makes my pulled pork the best).

So funny about the Twitter message!!! Thank you for the kind words and your awesome remake of the burgers. I am so glad your family liked them and you were even able to fool them! And yes I am very proud
Your picture had me fooled! The burgers look fantastic, pinning it now so I can make them later myself!
Great job, Rhonda…my hubby will eat Boca Burgers, so I’m betting these would be a hit with him as well. I try to make 1-2 meatless dishes a week, but it doesn’t always happen.
hahaha I also have carnivours in my family, they can’t live without meat and I’m always trying new recipes, it should be a challenge to make this burgers
I eat veggie burgers from time to time and your bean burger sounds really delicious. Don’t think I could make my husband eat it though, he loves his meat too much.
One question about your give-away (I assume it is only for US residents, so I won’t participate) – the cardboard “tops” for your spice mix bags, with your blog name printed on them, where did you get them? Or what are they called?
I am giving away some homemade spice mixes myself now and then, and these would be perfect to close the bags – but I have no idea what to search for!
Heidi, sadly the giveaway is US only (the overseas shipping costs are a little rich for me). The cardboard tops for the spice bags are a kit made by Avery. It’s 22801 product number, you can go online and make and save your design. They make it look more professional. Alternatively you can put the spices in a ‘goodie’ bag and print on cardstock, fold it over and staple it; that method is a little more economical.
