Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 (1 0z.) bottles red food coloring
  • 1 (16 oz.) box powdered sugar
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, softened
  • 3 tbsp. milk
  • Red sprinkles

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream sugar and shortening in bowl and add eggs, one at a time. Beat after each addition. Add vanilla and mix. Add 1/4 tsp. salt, flour and milk and alternate each, beginning and ending with flour. Add food coloring and beat until smooth. Bake in a sprayed, floured tube pan for 1 hour 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Set aside in pan for 10 minutes. Remove cake from pan. cool completely and frost.

Frosting:
Beat powdered sugar, cream cheese, butter and milk in bowl and mix well. Frost cake and top with a few red sprinkles. Serves 12 - 16.
