Wonderful recipe! Makes a very large batch of caramels. From Nancy Couture.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups butter
  • 2 pounds light brown sugar
  • 2 cups light corn syrup
  • 2 cans sweetened condensed milk
  • dash of salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter over medium heat in 4-5 quart Teflon pan. Add brown sugar, salt and corn syrup. Mix well. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, stir constantly.

Bring to 245 degrees (takes 45 to 60 minutes). Remove from heat, keep stirring, add in vanilla.

Pour into one buttered cookie sheet. Cool 10 to 15 minutes. Cover with Saran wrap. Cool overnight.

Slice and wrap in wax paper or candy wrappers.
