Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tea. salt
  • 1 tea. baking powder
  • 6 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • grated peel and juice of 1 lemon
  • 14 cup poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan.

Whisk together flour, salt and baking powder.

In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar and eggs together until light and fluffy. Add milk alternately with the flour mixture in 2 parts; mix well. Stir in grated lemon peel and poppy seeds.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 60 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes.

Mix together lemon juice and confectioner's sugar to make a glaze. Remove the bread from the pan. Pour the glaze over the ware bread (poking holes in the bread first will make it absorb more of the glaze).
