Green Chile Grits (in crock pot)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cornmeal grits
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 tea. paprika
  • 1/2 to 1 tea. salt
  • 4 oz. can chopped green chilies
  • 1 jalapeno, minced
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper or red chili powder

Step 1

Combine all ingredients in the crock pot. Cover and cook on HIGH 3-3 1/2 hours or LOW 7-9 hours, stirring occasionally. If cooking on high check for consistency when stirring, adding 1/4 - 1/2 cup boiling water to thin if necessary.

Serve immediately or refrigerated in a buttered loaf pan for a few hours or overnight, covered with plastic wrap. Unmold, slice into 1/2" thick slices, and fry in butter until browned, turning once.
