Ingredients

  • 1 pkg yeast (compressed okay)
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp shortening
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Confectioner's sugar for icing

Preparation

Step 1

Soften yeast in water.

Scald milk. Add sugar, salt, shortening. Cool to lukewarm.

Add flour to make thick dough. Mix well. Add egg and yeast. Beat well, add enough flour to make a soft dough.

Put on floured board & knead until smooth & satining. Place in a greased bowl & cover & let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. When light, punch down & let rest 10 minutes.

Roll out into rectangular size 9x18. Spread with butter & sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar. Fold over in thirds, 9x6. Cut into strips 1" wide & 6" long. Roll up one strip starting at narrow end. Stand on edge in center of greased 9 inch round pan. Roll up the rest of the strips in the same manner. Put around the one that is in the center of pan. Let rise until doubled about 45 minutes.

Bake in oven at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool & frost with icing.
