Mrs. Schroeder's Brown Cookies

Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup shortening
- 1/2 Cup sugar
- 1/2 Cup dark corn syrup
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. PURE VANILLA EXTRACT
- 1/4-1/2 tsp. GROUND CARDAMOM
- 1/2 tsp. PENZEYS CINNAMON
- 21/2 Cups flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar. Add the corn syrup, eggs, salt and VANILLA and mix well. In a separate bowl, sift together the CARDAMOM, CINNAMON, flour, baking soda and baking powder. Gradually add to the creamed mixture and beat well. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 350°. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with your favorite cookie cutters. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 350° for 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cutouts.
Prep. time: 10 minutes plus 2 hours chilling time
Baking time: 8-12 minutes per sheet
Yield: 3 dozen
