Ingredients

  • 2 (1) cups butter
  • 2 (1) cups sugar
  • 2 (1) eggs
  • 2 (1) tsp. vanilla
  • 6 1/4 (3 1/8) cups flour
  • 3 (1 1/2) tsp. baking powder
  • 1 (1/2) tsp. salt

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Dough should be firm and not sticky and hold its shape when pinched. Separate into 4 (or 2, if just making half the recipe) sections. Wrap each in plastic wrap and put all in zip lock bag in refrigerator for 2 hours.

Roll to 1/4" thickness on lightly floured board with plastic wrap over dough and cut into desired shapes. Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.

These cookies freeze well. Thaw before decorating. Makes about 8 dozen 3" cookies. If you want to make half the recipe, just use the measurements in parentheses.

Decorate with Royal icing.
