DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE AND FROSTING

(The best! She used to make this at school. Recipe was originally from her boss at Westview, Clarice Parker. I would ask for this every year for my birthday cake--I loved it!)

Ingredients
- CAKE:
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- FROSTING:
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons shortening
- 1 tablespoon margarine
- 2 or 3 squares chocolate
- powdered sugar

Step 1
CAKE:
Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat eggs until light and fluffy. Add eggs to shortening and sugar mixture.
Sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
Add dry ingredients alternately into buttermilk, mix well.
Add to egg and sugar mixture. Add boiling water and vanilla, mix well.
Put in 13x9 inch pan or two 9 inch layer pans.
Bake at 350° F. fpr 30-35 minutes.
FROSTING:
Add all ingredients, melt over low heat till chocolate is melted. Add powdered sugar until mixture is the desired consistency. Spread on cake.
