Preparation

Step 1

With electric mixer, thoroughly cream together sugar, Crisco, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; blend into egg mixture. Do not overmix. Starting with approx. a third of the dough, roll out between two sheets of waxed paper to about 1/8 inch thickness. Remove top sheet of paper and cut with cookie cutter. Re-cover with paper and place rolled dough on a spare cookie sheet in freezer for seven to ten minutes. This firms the dough, allowing you to easily move cut-outs with a non-stick spatula to a lightly greased cookie sheet. Place about a half inch apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes; check at 7 minutes. Better to underbake than overbake.

Remove from cookie sheet immediately. Cool completely on a rack before frosting. Makes 3 to 4 dozen cookies, depending on size of cookie cutters used. Recipe may be doubled.

Icing:
3/4 of a one-pound bag of powdered sugar,
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. butter or margarine
3 tablespoons of milk

Blend all together with electric mixer. Add more milk if needed, but in very small amounts. Add too much, and you will need to thicken with more powdered sugar. Frost cooled cookies and have fun decorating!
