Ingredients
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
- 1 cup chopped nuts

Preparation
Step 1
Cover raisins with hot water. Simmer 10 minutes. Drain; reserve 1/3 cup raisin liquid. Sift flour with soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Gradually add sugar to shortening in mixing bowl; cream until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs and vanilla extract; beat well. Stir in raisins and reserved raisin liquid. Add sifted dry ingredients, rolled oats and nuts; mix thoroughly. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden.
