Ingredients
- 1 medium cabbage
- 2 tbsp bacon fat
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 lb ground beef
- 3/4 cup uncooked rice
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 1/2 cups tomato juice or tomato sauce
- 1 1/2 cups water

Step 1
Remove cabbage core and immerse whole in boiling water. Cover and let stand for 15 minutes - leave should be limp and easy to remove. Cut away part of thick center vein. Shred leaves not used for rolls. Put bacon fat in skillet, add onion and garlic and saute. Remove from heat, add rice, ground beef and seasonings. Mix well. Place 1 tbsp of mixture on cabbage leaf - roll up. Place alternately with shredded cabbage in casserole - start and finish with shredded cabbage. Heat water to boiling and combine with tomato juice or sauce and pour over rolls. Cook slowly at 300F (covered for 1 to 1 1/2 hours).
