Ingredients

  • 1 c shortening (half butter)
  • 1 c powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teas almond flavoring
  • 1 teas vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 teas salt
  • 1/2 teas red food coloring

Preparation

Step 1

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavorings. Stir in flour and salt. Stir mixture then divide dough in half and put food coloring in one half of the dough. Make ropes from small part of the white and red dough then twist to form candy canes. Bake at 375 until lightly browned on the edges.
