From Mom Sumpter. Phillip LOVES. Healthy and so good. Makes a lot but you can keep some of the uncooked batter in the fridge to make later (batter will be good for 4-6 months in fridge).

Ingredients

  • 2 c boiling water
  • 2 c 100% bran
  • 1 c shortening
  • 3 c sugar (some brown)
  • 4 eggs beaten
  • 1 quart buttermilk
  • 5 c flour
  • 5 t soda
  • 1 t salt
  • 4 c All-Bran

Cooking time 15mins

Preparation

Step 1

Soak the 2 cups of 100% bran in the 2 cups boiling water.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk and soaked bran. Add sifted dry ingredients and All-Bran. Stir well.

Makes 1 gallon batch. Stores 4-6 months in fridge.

Bake for 15 minutes at 400.
