Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 4 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Icing:
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 4 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Grease and flour a jelly roll pan (baking sheet)

In a large mixing bowl sift the flour, sugar and soda together. Set aside.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Add the cocoa and water. Bring to a boil. Add to the flour mixture. Mix thoroughly.

Add the butter milk, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well.

Pour into the greased and floured jelly roll pan.

Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Watch closely, can burn easily.

While cake is baking make the frosing:

Melt the butter. Pour into a mixing bowl. Add the cocoa, and buttermilk. Mix together. Add the powdered sugar.

Frost the cake while still warm.
