Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs divided
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- chopped nuts
- maraschino cherries cut in half

Preparation
Step 1
Cream shortening, butter, and sugar. Add egg yolks and vanilla and beat well. Add flour and salt. Chill dough in refrigerator. Beat egg whites slightly. Form dough into small balls. Roll each in egg whites, then in chopped nuts. Place 1/2 cherry on each cookie. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes at 350. They shouldn't get brown but stay light.
