Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 5 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375. Cream shortening with sugar. Stir in egg, molasses and vinegar; beat well. Sift dry ingredients; stir in. Chill 3 hours.

On floured surface roll to 1/8 inch thick. Cut in shapes. Place 1 inch apart on greased cooie sheet. Bake at 375 about 6 minutes.

Frost when cool.
