Preparation

Step 1

In a small bowl, cut the cold butter into the flour until the pieces are the size of small peas. Gradually add the water until the dough just holds together. Wrap in plastic and refigerate for 1 hour.

On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a 10-inch square. Place in an 8-inch square baking pan and press into the corners and up the sides. Chill for 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

To make the filling, in a medium saucepan, melt 5 Tbsp. of the butter. Remove from the heat. Store in the brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Cool slightly.

Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until well combined. Fold in the chopped pecans. Pour the filling into the pastry-lined pan. If any dough extends above the filling, cut it off with a knife.

bake in the preheated oven until set, about 50 to 60 minutes. While the bars are cooling, top with the pecan halves.
