Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- dash of salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cups lukewarm water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 package dry yeast

Preparation
Step 1
Place shortening, salt, and sugar into bowl. Stir well. Stir in egg and yeast; add flour all at once. Beat with fork to make soft dough. Cover; let rise for 1 hour and 30 minutes or place in refrigerator until ready to let rise. Knead down about 5 minutes; make into rolls. Let rise; bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
CINNAMON ROLLS:
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 cup flour
1 cup pecans, optional
After dough has risen the first time, on lightly floured surface, roll dough into a rectangle. Spread butter on dough. Combine cinnamon, sugar and flour. Sprinkle with nuts. Roll dough like a jelly roll. Cut with knife or scissors into 1" slices. Place in greased pan; let rise in warm place approximately about one hour or until double in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until rolls are lightly browned. Remove from oven and glaze while hot.
ICING:
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 to 4 tablespoons milk or cream
