  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/3 cups buttermilk
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup( 2 sticks) butter, at room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • glossy chocolate frosting;
  • 2 cups sifted 10X(confectioners) sugar
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 pkg(12oz) semisweet chocolate pieces

Preparation

Step 1

preheat oven to 350. grease 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. dust pan with flour, shake out excess flour.

pour the 1 cup boiling water over the cocoa powder in medium-size bowl, stir to dissolve the cocoa powder. stir in the buttermilk. set aside to cool.

sift together flour, ,baking soda, baking powder and salt onto a piece of waxed paper.

beat together butter and sugar in large bowl at medium speed until light and fluffy. add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. stir in vanilla

at low speed, beat flour mixture into butter mixture, alternating with cocoa mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture. pour batter into the prepared pan.

bake in preheated 350 oven for 50-55 minutes.

prepare glossy chocolate frosting; beat together 10X sugar, evaporated milk and vanilla in a bowl. melt semisweet chocolate pieces in top of double boiler over hot, not boiling water. stir 10X sugar mixture into melted chocolate. let cool, stirring occasionally, until good spreading consistency.
