Ingredients

  • 4 cups French bread cubes (stale)
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 4 cups milk (scalded) 1 teasp vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup raisins
  • 3 Tablespoons butter 1/4 teasp salt
  • Sauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup water 1/4 teasp cinnamon
  • bourbon whiskey to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Place bread cubes and araisins in buttered 3 quart casserole. Scald milk. In separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients. Add scalded milk to this mixture, mix well, and pour over bread cubes and raisins. Set casserole in pan and pour hot water in pan to a depth of about 1 inch. Bake at 325 degrees until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Alternate topping
4 egg whites and 4 Tablespoons sugar
Beat egg whites with the sugar for this meringue topping. Spread on top of pudding, return to oven until brown.
