Ingredients
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 tablespoons crisco
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3 cups flour

Preparation
Step 1
boil sugar, water, crisco, raisins, salt, cinnamon and cloves together for exactly five minutes,, counting time after boil is reached. cool
when cold, add soda which has been dissolved in a small amount of hot water. add flour and stir until well blended.
pour into two greased loaf pans and bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for 45 minutes.
allow cake to ripen for a week or longer before serving.
