Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • dash of salt
  • 2 cups liquid coffee
  • 1/2 pound melted lard
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup grape jelly
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 7-8 cups flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

mix sugar, cocoa, cinnamon, allspice, and salt together. add lukewarm coffee and melted lard. add jelly and nuts.

mix one cup flour and baking powder together, add and stir well. keep adding flour until a fairly stiff but slightly sticky dough is formed.

take about a teaspoon of dough,place on lightly greased cookie sheet. do not roll into a ball; leave it rough. continue until all dough is used.bake in preheated 400 degree oven for no more than 10 minutes.(cookies should be fudgy)

makes about 15 dozen

to frost: make a runny glaze of confectioners sugar and milk. place about 15 cookies at a time in a bowl and pour a small amount of glaze over them..
