Ingredients
- 2 medium white potatoes
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, grated
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tbsp. bread crumbs
- 3-4 tbsp. flour
- Sugar (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
Grate potatoes into cold water. Let soak while combining egg, onion, salt, pepper, baking powder, bread crumbs and flour. Drain potatoes and add egg mixture. Drop batter by tbsp. into 1/2 inch of hot shortening. Fry over moderate heat until crisp on both sides. Remove and drain well. Sprinkle with sugar if desired.
Serves 5-6.
