- dough;
- 1 pound sweet(unsalted) butter
- 6 cups flour
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2-1 tsp salt
- 1-16 oz sour cream

mix together butter and flour. add remaining ingredients. divide dough into 4 sections. wrap each in waxed paper and place overnight. dough will be very soft.
roll each section out on lightly floured surface into an 18 inch rectangle. spread with desired filling. roll up from the short side, like a jelly roll. brush lightly with an egg white and sugar mixture to glaze.
bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
makes enough dough for 4 strudels.
***same dough can be used for christmas cookies. roll thin and cut into shapes.
poppyseed filling; prepared poppyseed filling can be purchased, canned in most supermarkets. allow 1 can per strudel.
walnut filling; grind 2 medium cans of walnut halves. add 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 6 unbeaten egg whites, mix thoroughly. this makes enough filling for 2 strudels.
