Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups well-packed brown sugar
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Sift flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt. Cream butter and shortening, gradually add brown sugar. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients. Add rolled oats. Chill 1 hour and divide into 3 rolls. Chill 5 - 6 hours.

Cut into 1/4" slices, dip into topping to coat both sides. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 deg. for 9 - 12 minutes until golden brown. (May be rolled after chilling and cut with cookie cutters.)

Do not overbake. They will puff up and as soon as they flatten down, they should be taken out of the oven.
