These are the only dill pickles that I like, well except for the pickle slices at Lonnie's.

Ingredients

  • Fresh pickling cucumbers
  • 4 quarts water
  • 3/4 cup pickling salt
  • 1 quart white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon alum
  • Fresh dill, 1 head per jar
  • 2-5 cloves fresh garlic per jar

Preparation

Step 1

1. Boil for 1 minute; cool.
2. Put washed cucumbers in jar; add 2 cloves garlic
(up to 5), 1 head of dill and fill to the brim.
3. Boil lids.
4. Put in cold oven on lower rack.
5. Bake at 200 for 45 minutes.
6. Leave in oven until cold.
*For hotter pickles, add small red hot pepper and ½
tsp. pickling spice.
