  • Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 oz. red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream or buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup butter

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter, sugar, and eggs and blend. Mix coloring with cocoa, add to first mixture, add sour cream or buttermilk with salt alternately with flou, add vanilla, mix vinegar with soda, add to cake batter and beat. bake in 9" layer pans greased at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool cake and use a thread to slice the layers to form four layers.



Frosting:
Cook flour and milk five minutes til thick and cool. Cream sugar and butter, blend in cool milk add flour mixture (beat with mixer) will double in volume, stir in vanilla, frost cake.
