Barbara's Apple Crisp

I took Laurel's recipe and "tweaked" it a bit.

Ingredients

    apples (approximately 12 cups of apples), peeled and sliced thin. I used Gala, but any of your favorite apples will do.

  • Place apples and a couple tablespoons of water in a 9 X 13 pyrex pan and place in the microwave. Microwave for 5 minutes, stir and microwave another 4 -5 minutes. Remove from microwave, drain liquid and place in a bowl. Add one tsp. Splenda, if desired and 1 tsp. cinnamon. Mix thoroughly and place back in the 9 X 13 pan.

  • Mix together:

    cups flour

  • cups brown sugar

  • cups oatmeal

  • 1

    cup butter, softened.

  • Cut all ingredients together (I use 2 knives) until mixture is crumbly. Pour over apples, covering completely.

  • Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool and serve. Can be served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Directions

Note: I mixed everything and assembled the apple crisp the day before, refrigerated it overnight and removed from refrigerator about an hour before I baked it. I served it at room temperature. But, this can be done at the last minute and baked immediately. Delicious! Enjoy.
