Ingredients

  • 5 cups self-rising flour or plain flour (then add 3 tablespoons baking powder and 1 1/2 teasp salt if plain flour)
  • 2 packages yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon bakaing soda
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Mix dry ingredients, then cut in shortening. Stir in yeast and buttermilk. Roll out and cut into biscuits. Bake at 450 until done. May have to knead in more flour. Keeps for one week in refrigerator

They are delicious shaped into bread sticks and brushed with garlic butter.
