Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups Quaker oats (Quick or Old Fashion)
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening and granulated sugar on medium speed until creamy. Add egg, water and vanilla; beat well.

Add combined dry ingredients and mix well.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until edges are browned. Transfer to a rack and cool completely.

Option: Add 1 cup of chocolate chips, dried cranberries, nuts or raisins.
