Ingredients

  • Marinade:
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tsp cornstarc
  • Pinch garlic powder
  • Pinch white pepper
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Peanut oil
  • Seasoning sauce:
  • 5 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp Chinese chili sauce
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 Tbsp dark soy sauce
  • Chopped green onions

Step 1

Cut beef into strips 2-inches long by 1/8 inch wide. Combine the marinade ingredients (down to the white pepper) and let the beef strips marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Place the 1/2 cup cornstarch on a plate and dredge the beef strips in the cornstarch. Deep fry the strips in hot oil (300 degrees) for about 3 minutes, or until dry and crisp. Drain meat and place on a platter.

Heat 2 Tbsp of oil in a wok. Combine all seasoning sauce ingredients and cook in wok until it boils and thickens. Pour sauce over beef, tossing strips to ensure all pieces are coated. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve steamed rice.
