- Filling:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup sour milk
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups oatmeal
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup dates, chopped
- nuts, chopped

Preparation
Step 1
Filling: Combine sugar, water and dates in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook until thickened. Let cool. (Never really thickens until it starts to cool, let it simmer for about and hour.
Cream margine and brown sugar together. Add sifted flour and baking soda alternately with sour milk. Mix in oatmeal last. Chill dough.
Divide chilled dough and roll out on floured surface. Cut in rounds. Top each round with 1 tablespoon filling, sprinkle chopped nuts over filling. Top with another round of dough, seal edges with fingertips.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes.
*To make sour milk use 2 tsp. vinegar and add milk to make 1/2 cup.
